Cloquet Girls Close Out regular Season At 8-17

The Duluth East Greyhounds won their second game this season against the Lumberjacks in Cloquet on Tuesday night. The first time these two teams met it was a 34 point win for Duluth East at home, on Thursday the Lumberjacks played a lot tighter game as East managed a 15 point 68-53 win.


Alex Freeman paced the Greyhounds with 24 points on the night including nailing down two three-pointers as the Greyhounds end the Lumberjacks regular season with a loss. The Greyhounds made the most of their 24 free throw attempts by hitting 17 from the charity stripe. Cloquet finished 10-16 from the line.


The Lumberjacks were paced by Senior Annabel Morrisroe and Sophomore Kenzie Rathe who both finished with 15 points in the loss for Cloquet. Krista Schmitz added 9 points on the night, Shania Paulson chipped in with 9 points, while Felicia Hraban and Sarah McMillen both finished with 4 points on the night.


Following Freeman and her 24 points was Anne Mahoney, who added 12 points. Elena Lushine chipped in with 9, Mia Anderson contributed with 8, Jamie Whitlinger added 7, Macie Dorow had 4, Nicole Roseth and Shamika Hopkins both ended with 2 points in the Duluth East victory on Tuesday night.


The Lumberjacks close out their regular season with an 8-17 record overall. Cloquet will be back in action again on Tuesday night in the opening round of the section 7AA basketball playoffs. Duluth East improves to 17-7 overall on the season and they finish their regular season on Saturday when they take on the Eskomos at Esko High School.
