Esko Falls in State Opener

The Esko Eskomos Open play in the 2015 state girls basketball tournament tonight at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis against the Roseau Rams. The winner will face Dover-Eyota in the state semi-finals Friday night at Williams Arena. The first half started slow as Esko  and Roseau played a slower tempo style with the Rams holding a 18-17 halftime lead. That lead led to a second half run after Esko took a early lead int he second half it was all Roseau as the Rams defeated the Eskomos 50-37.

Esko would struggle from the field in the first half shooting only 5-30 for a whopping 16% overall in the half and the Eskomos were 2-13 from the three-point line. Karlie Kulas led the Eskomos with 6 points in the first half followed by senior center Molly Trapp who added 5.

The Rams were led by 8th grader Kacie Borowicz who had 8 points while her sister Kiley ended the half scoring 7 points as the Rams held a one point halftime lead. The sisters took off in the second half as they finished with 23 & 20 points to lead the Rams.Esko started the game 1-for-9 from the field until Mandi Dincau hit a much-needed 3-point basket with 10:50 left in the first half. Poor shooting was the difference in the game for the Eskomos, who hit only 12 of their 57 field goals on the night.

Roseau led 18-17 at halftime and slowly extended its lead in the second half, scoring 24 of its points off turnovers. Kiley Borowicz scored a game-high 23 points and 6 steals for the Rams, while Kacie Borowicz added 20 points, 6 rebounds. Amelia Johnson grabbed 9 boards for Roseau. Molly Trapp led all players with 14 rebounds and 5 blocks for the Eskomos. Bailey Mudek was the only Esko player to score in double-figures with 12 points.
