Taylor Gazda scored 13 points Saturday afternoon to lead the North Branch Vikings to a 44-26 win over the Cloquet Lumberjacks in a section 7AAA quarterfinal match up at North Branch High School.

Gazda’s 13 points along with a Lumberjack team that struggled shooting all game long saw the season end with the loss Saturday.

The Lumberjacks struggled to get things going in the first half as it took Cloquet almost 13 minutes to get their first points which came on two free throws from Kaylee McMillen. In a struggle to put points on the scoreboard North Branch slowly created distance between the two teams and took a 21-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Cloquet came out in the second half hoping to make a run at the Vikings, but it was meant to be as with every Cloquet run they made, the Vikings answered right back as they outscored Cloquet 23-20 in the second half.

The Lumberjacks were led by Kassidy Steen who finished with 10 points, Kaylee McMillen finished with 8, Hazel Ericson scored 6, Allie Wojtysiak closed the lumberjack scoring with 2 points.

Courtney Selbitschka added 10 points for the Vikings while Hallie Corner scored 9, Morgan Coleman 6 and Sarah Davis, Megan Becklin, and Megan Carlson all had 2 points.
