Cloquet Girls Pick Up Win Over ML-WR

The Cloquet girls basketball team notched a big win Tuesday night over the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels as they survived a second half comeback by the Rebels to come away with a three point 40-37 win at Moose Lake High School. The Lumberjacks avenged a loss last season in this non-conference battle.


The Lumberjacks capitalized on poor shooting from the Rebels as Moose Lake-Willow River only shot 15% from the floor in the first half and only finished at 22% for the game. The Lumberjacks, in the first half shot 34% from the field and cooled down in the second half but still outshot the Rebels with a field goal percentage of .295 for the game.


The second half saw the Lumberjacks jump out to a 14 point 31-17 point lead, but it was the Rebels who fought back as the closed the game on an 20-9 run only to fall short as Cloquet pulled away with the win.


The Lumberjacks were led by senior Annabel Morrisroe who finished with 21 points on the night. Kenzie Rathe added 9, Krista Schmitz finished with 5 points, Carri Zeadow and Shania Paulson each added 2, and it was Mark Keller finishing the scoring with 1 point on the night.


The Rebels were led by Maddy Adamczak who finished with 19 points on the night. Olivia Bennett added 8 points, Taylor Miller, Shelby and Shaeyln Halverson, Julianna Coil; and Adri Jusczak all ended with 2 points for the Rebels.


The Lumberjacks improve to 8-14 on the season and they will be home on Friday night when they will take on the Hibbing Bluejackets. The Rebels fall to 7-15 overall and they will host Cromwell on Thursday night and on Friday they will play host to East Central.
