Barnum Girls Fall To Grand Rapids On The Road

The Thunderhawks of Grand Rapids handed the Barnum Bombers their second loss of the season Tuesday night in Grand Rapids as the Thunderhawks beat the Bombers 61-51. The Bombers loss to Grand Rapids was the first loss to the Thunderhawks over the past four meetings.


In a tight battle in the first half it was the Thunderhawks who built a three point 27-24 lead at halftime. The second half saw the Thunderhawks outscore Barnum by seven as they go on to the ten point win at home. The loss on the road was only the second road loss in the past two seasons for the Bombers, dating back to 2009.


Jessi Corrick scored a game high 24 points for the Thunderhawks including three three-pointers Tuesday night. Barnum’s Katie Myhre connected on three three-pointers as well. Jessica Newman added two from down town as well for the Bombers in the loss on the road.


Following Corrick’s 24 points was Jessa Sondergaard who finished with 11 points, Kelly Niles added 9, as did Kenzie Kane, Michaela Cleveland, and Katie Anderson rounded out the Thunderhawks scoring with 4 points each.


The Bombers were led by Jessica Newman who had 19 points in the loss, Daron Mainville finished with 14, and Katie Myhre added 9 points, Claudia Turner, Claire and Caitlyn Rodgers all finished with 3 points for the Bombers.


The Bombers fall to 21-2 on the season and they are in action again next Tuesday when they face the Braham Bombers in a non-conference match up at Braham High School. The Thunderhawks improve to 16-8 on the season and they will play at Hermantown next Tuesday night.
