MLA Girls Advance To Semi-Finals With 4-2 Win

A quick start to their Section 7A quartefinal game helped the Moose Lake Area girls hockey team come away with a 4-2 win over Hibbing/Chisholm on Thursday night.

Shannon Wilson provided the spark just 12 seconds into the game for the Rebels when she slammed in a goal with the assist going to Emily Wasche and Michaela Anderson as MLA took a 1-0 lead.

Katie Dye pumped in a power play goal at 1:23 of the second period to even the game for the Blue Jackets, but Maggie Unzen got the Rebels the lead back with a tally at 7:19 as Anderson provided the assist. Again the Blue Jackets bounced back with a goal at the 12:00 mark by Maria Marturano, but Unzen scored on a breakaway after jumping off the bench and taking a feed from Erin Mollberg at 16:29 of the second to make it 3-2 after two periods for the Rebels.

Kaitlyn Greene slammed the door in the third period for the Rebels by providing stellar goaltending and keeping the Blue Jackets from tying the game along with a rock-solid defensive effort by the rest of her club.

For the game the Blue Jackets outshot the Rebels 24-22.

The #3 seed Rebels will now move into Section 7A semifinal action on Tuesday when they face the #2 Seed Eveleth-Gilbert at the Cloquet Area Rec. Center at 8:00pm. The Golden Bears advanced with an 11-1 win over Princeton on Thursday. The CARC will also host the #1 seed Chicago Lakes Area vs. #5 seed International Falls in the early game at 6:00pm.
