The Barnum Boys Basketball team had two consecutive heartbreaking losses over the past ten days, a loss to Esko and then Friday to Moose Lake-Willow River and in both games the Bombers held leads late in the game but ended up falling to both Polar league foes. Monday the Bombers defeated the Polar Bears by a score of 74-51.

Monday’s game against Floodwood was a different test as the Bombers were looking to rebound not only from two straight losses but a loss earlier in the season to Floodwood that ended their win streak to start the season at seven wins and knocked them from the state top ten rankings.

Josh Hogan stepped up with a huge night, scoring a season high 31 points as the Bombers rolled to the win at Floodwood High School. The Bombers came out and built a nineteen point half time lead of 42-23 and they cruised in the second half with the twenty-three point win to avenge the earlier loss this season.

Hogan’s 31 points including two three-pointers led all scorers. Luke Chalberg added 12 points, Andrew Youngren finished with 10, Justin Newman added with 7, Jacob Naslund had 6, Brandon Newman closed with 4, Danny Warpala and Bobby Minkkinen each ended with 2 points for the Bombers.

Zach Heggedahl finished with 12 points to led the Polar Bears, Ross Schminski finished with 11, Justin Hall added 8, Jason Myrvold ended with 6, Riley Bernsdorf had 4, Jarred Heggedahl scored 3, and Hunter Rauvola closed the Floodwood scoring with 2 points.

Barnum improves to 14-5 on the season and they will host the Carlton Bulldogs at home on Tuesday night. The Polar Bears fall to 7-12 on the season and they will face the Hornets of Hill City on Tuesday night at Hill City High School.
