CLOQUET- It took a while for the Rebels of Moose Lake-Willow River to get going Tuesday night, but when they did, they got it going in a hurry as the Rebels defeated the Lumberjacks in Cloquet Tuesday night by a final score of 65-41. The Rebels spotted Cloquet an early lead but it was short lived as the Rebels responded and win this non-conference match-up by twenty four points.

Cloquet came out quickly in the first half as the Lumberjacks jumped out to a 12-4 lead and seemed to be well in control of the game at this point. The Rebels then made a few substitutions and quickly found themselves taking the lead at 16-15, a lead they would never give up as they pick up the win on the road Tuesday night.

“It was a great win for us tonight,” Head Coach Neil Dickinson told Northland Sports Online. “They started off hot from the outside with a couple of their young players and we found ourselves trailing, but our kids did a great job and when Mattison came into the game he did a great job inside for us.”

The Rebels went on a 26-13 run to close out the first half, leading 30-25 at the break. The second half saw the Rebels come out and continue to shoot the ball well and play good defense as they held Cloquet to only 16 second half points on the night. “We have to finds a way to score” Head Cloquet Coach Steve Battaglia told Northland Sports Online. “We play well for stretches but we need to be able to stop the large runs the other teams have.” Battaglia added “putting together two good halves is what we are trying to do and play more consistent.”

The Rebels were led in scoring by Trevor Nummela who finished with 17 points on the night. Ryan Adamczak added 16, Taylor Mattison and Caleb Koecher each finished with 10, Jake Disterhaupt finished with 7, Nick Tokar added 3, and Jeff Hansen rounded out the scoring with 2 points on the night.

Andy Wappes led the Lumberjacks with 13 points on the night. Dane Kiehn finished with 12, Dillon Johnson scored 9 points, Zach Peterson added 5, Trent Moe and Sean Ferrell each finished with 1 point in the loss for Cloquet. Cloquet shot only 27% for the game compared to 46% for Moose Lake –Willow River.

The Rebels improve to 17-2 overall on the season; they are back in action again on Friday night when they take on the Barnum Bombers in a Polar League battle in Barnum. The Lumberjacks fall to 4-11 on the season and they host the Duluth East Greyhounds on Thursday night at Cloquet High School.
