Maybe it just took a while for the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey team to learn the ways of new head coach Mike Bushey. Whatever the reason, the Jacks are hitting on all cylinders as they wrap up regular season play. On Tuesday night, CEC scored three unanswered goals in the third period to take a 3-0 road win over Hibbing/Chisholm.

Not only are the Jacks getting timely scoring, but they are also working on a 1-2 punch in goal. Both Katie Beckman, who played on Tuesday, and Alyssa Acheson have provided stellar goaltending during a 7-0 run over the last half of the season. Combined, they have six shutouts, four of which have come during the 7-0 run. On Tuesday night Beckman provided the shutout goaltending while making 27 saves.

After going scoreless through the first two periods the Lumberjacks finally broke through with a goal at 1:13 of the third when Carley Esse finished off a pretty play with assists going to Dalyce Gustafson and Kelly Carlson. CEC went up 2-0 at 3:29 on a goal by Caitlin Lilly on an assist by Kalie Shevich. The final CEC goal was scored at 6:38 by Emily Gustafson with Jessie Ryan adding the assist.

The Jacks outshot the Blue Jackets 34-27 for the game.

CEC finished the regular season winners of 9 of their last 10 games including a 7-0 run to close out the regular season. CEC is now 14-9-1 overall as they prepare for the playoffs.
