The University of Minnesota Duluth kept tight at the half with perennial Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference South division contender Minnesota State University Mankato, but the Mavericks put together too many runs in the second half to down UMD 76-57 at the Taylor Center in Mankato on Saturday evening.

UMD (5-7, 3-5 NSIC) suffers its second-straight setback on the road to start the calendar year but will return home next week while MSU (0-0, 0-0 NSIC, RV) defends its home court.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Sophomore forward Kenzie Kane matched her career-high scoring output, tying junior forward Taylor Meyer for the team-high of 12 points. UMD got 22 points off its bench in the defeat, while Allyson Harris (seven) and Alyssa Kerkhoff (six) led UMD in rebounding off the bench.
• Three players reached double-figures scoringf or Minnesota State, led by sophomore guard Sammie Delzotto who netted 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Forward Lexie Ulfers hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds for the Mavericks.
After a back-and-forth first half that saw senior guard Danielle Flood net the game-tying score just before the break, Minnesota State immediately took control out of the locker room, scoring the first nine points of the second half. The Bulldogs were able to trim that lead to three, but the Mavericks again opened up a run, thist ime 12-6 to take a 49-40 lead as the clock ticked past the 10-minute mark. A three-pointer by Kane breathed life into the Bulldogs, but another MSU run stretched the lead to 11 and they were able to build from there and hold off the Bulldogs in the closing minutes.

UMD shot just 26.7 percent in the game, while the Mavericks went 42.4 percent from the floor including eight three-pointers. A 1-for-12 night from beyond the arc stymied the Bulldogs, who snagged nine steals on 19 Maverick turnovers on the night resulting in 19 points.
