Matt Fritz scored two first period goals Tuesday night as the Crusaders of St. Cloud Cathedral defeated the Denfeld Hunters by a score of 4-1 at the Heritage Center in Duluth.

In a match-up of the states 11th and 12th ranked teams the fast start by the Crusaders was too much for the Hunters to overcome as the Crusaders picked up the road victory. Fritz scored the games first goal just 20 seconds into the contest Tuesday to make it 1-0. Logan Neu made it 2-0 at the 10:47 mark of the first and Fritz’s second goal with a little under three minutes to play in the period.

The second period saw no scoring but the Hunters would out shoot the Crusaders in the period by an 9-4 margin. Denfeld also continued the pressure in the third period out shooting St. Cloud 12-4 but only managed one goal in  the period, as Ben Kidd scored on an assist from Tyson Hughes to make it 3-1.

The Crusaders added another late goal to make it 4-1 as the Crusaders picked up a huge road win.

The Hunters fall to 7-3 on the season while St. Cloud improves to 5-4 overall
