Thunder Fall In Overtime to Rainy River

The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder Men’s Basketball squad dropped an overtime thriller 103-99 to Rainy River Community College in Cloquet on Wednesday evening.

The tightly contested game had eleven lead changes and six tie scores throughout the game. After the 90-90 tie score at the end of regulation, Rainy River outscored the Thunder 13-9 during overtime.

Rainy River outscored the Thunder 20-12 at the free throw line during the game, including making 11 of 12 during overtime. The Thunder scored 33 points on three-point shots, shooting 58% on 11 of 19 attempts.

Leading scores for the Thunder were Justin Roberts with 25 points, Alton Dixon with 23, Kolten Karppinen of AlBrook had 17 including five three-point baskets, Tyler Campbell added 16, and Greg Gillespie scored 10 points. Dixon also led the Thunder with 11 rebounds in the game. Roberts also dished out 13 assists in the game and played all 45 minutes without any time on the bench.

Leading scorers for Rainy River were Derek Scully with 25, DJ Fisher with 22, Sheldon Esdelle-Blackburn with 20, and Brandon Baily with 12.

The Thunder fall to 2-13 on the season, Rainy River improves to 4-10. The Thunder’s next game is this Saturday, January 29, as they host Mesabi Range in Cloquet. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
