The Duluth Central Trojans jumped out to an early first half lead Thursday night in Cloquet as they go on and pick up the Lake Superior Conference win. The Trojans scored the first basket of the game and held that lead the entire game as they went on to beat the Lumberjacks 44-34.

The Trojans built the lead to as many as ten points as they pick up only their second win in conference play. Their conference record improves to 2-3 after the win. The Lumberjacks fall to 2-4 in conference play.

Mary Von Rueden and Leah Hamm led the Trojans with 16 and 15 points respectively Thursday night, as only five Trojans players made it into the scoring column. The Trojans greatest advantage was their ability to score off turnovers as they finished with 20 points of Lumberjack miscues compared to only 12 for Cloquet.

The Lumberjacks were led by Annabel Morrisroe who finished with 13 points. Kenzie Rathe and Felicia Hraban each added 6 points, Krista Schmitz added 4 points and Sarah McMillen ended the scoring with 1 point in the Lumberjack loss.

The Lumberjacks fall to 5-10 overall and they will host Crosby-Ironton on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match-up. Cloquet will then take on Hibbing next Tuesday night at Hibbing High School.

The Trojans improve to 6-8 overall; they are in action again next Friday night when they will host the South St. Paul Packers at Central High School.
