The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels ran into issues when scoring runs in the Hinckley-Finlayson tournament this weekend. In the third game of the tournament, the Rebels had a hard time scoring as they fell to the Jaguars by a score of 6-4. The Rebels finished third in the Hinckley-Finlayson tournament.

“Again we had so many chances to score some runs but we didn’t,” head coach Lyle Halverson would tell Northland Sports Online. “Hinckley threw a left hander against us and we had a hard time making contact,” Halverson said. Moose Lake-Willow River has five left-handed batters in their line up, making it hard at times to hit lefties.

“We stranded eleven runners in the game,” Halverson mentioned. “We out hit Hinckley, but we never came up with a huge hit…Bases loaded with no outs in the fifth inning and we didn’t score,” Halverson stated. “Then in the seventh we were trailing 6-2, we scored two runs had two runners on base with no outs, but didn’t score any more runs.” The game would end with many “what-ifs” as they fall by two runs.

Moose Lake-Willow River now falls to 9-4 on the season and are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Silver Bay to take on the Mariners. Hinckley-Finlayson improves to 6-7 overall on the season and will face East Central on Tuesday at Sandstone.
