Lady Rebels Win Season Opener

The Moose Lake Area Rebels opened up their 2014-2015 season with a come from behind victory over the Northern Lakes Lighting by a score of 7-2 Tuesday night at Riverside Arena in Moose Lake. Jamie Bird, Cheyanne Wilson, and Lauren Pederson each netted two goals and Bird also had two assists, Tuesday night as the Lady Rebels broke open a 2-2 tie midway through the third period and scored five times within 8 minutes to pick up the home win.

The Lighting scored the games first goal early in the second period as Mariah Reed beat net minder Maddy Gambst. Cheyanne Wilson tied the game 2 minutes later when she took a centering pass from Karina Cisar and tied the game at 1-1. Jessica Bird then put the Rebels in front by a score of 2-1 when she scored on an assist from her sister Jamie.

With the Rebels in front 2-1 as the third period starting, Sam Gutzman tied the contest at two as she poked in a loose puck out in front of the net that tied the game at 3:22 of the period. The Rebels then scored five unanswered goals to put away the Lighting and move to 1-0 on the season.

Lauren Pederson put the Rebels in front to stay when she scored with an assist to Cassie Gassert, thirty seconds later Jamie Bird went in untouched on a intercepted pass and beat goalie Madison Galligan to make it 4-2. Jamie Bird added her second assist when she hit Pederson with a pass in front of the net as the Rebels took a 5-2 lead.

The Rebels were not done yet as Wilson scored her second goal of the game with an assist from Mackenzie Louzek, and the scoring was capped off when Bird scored her second unassisted goal of the game  to make it a five goal victory. Maddy Gambst stopped 23 shots on the night for the win, while Madison Galligan finished with 25 saves in the loss. The Rebels are home Thursday as they host the Mirage of Proctor-Hermantown.
