Northern Stars Pick up Win

The Duluth Northern Stars evened their season record at 1-1 as the Stars defeated Cambridge-Isanti  6-1 at the Isanti Ice Arena Tuesday night in Isanti. The Stars who fell to New Prague to open the season saw Cassie McClure score two goals including a shorthanded goal in the victory.

McClure scored the first goal of the game from an assist from Gretta Johnson that gave the Stars a 1-0 lead just 17 seconds in the the game. Avery Ziegler made it 2-0 on an unassisted goal at 8:14 of the 1st period. The Stars also added two more goals in the first period when Sydney Schuman and Hannah Cornwell also scored in the period for the Stars.

After the Blue Jackets cut the lead to 4-1 Katelyn Orso scored to make it 5-1 in favor of the Stars and it was McClure scoring her second goal of the contest to make it 6-1 as that is how the game would end Tuesday night.

Makayla Jackson saved 20 of 21 saves for the win for the Stars, while Paige Anfinson stopped 40 of the 46 shots she faced in the loss. The Northern Stars are back in action again on Saturday when they will face Orono on the road.
