The Cloquet Lumberjacks saw their 2014 football season come to an end Friday night as the Islanders of DeLaSalle rolled to a 55-21 victory in Chisago Lakes.
DeLaSalle stormed out to a 48-point lead in the first half scoring just about anyway a team can, rushing touchdowns, passing touchdown, punt return and interception return for scores. The Islanders with that fast start went on to defeat the previously undefeated Cloquet Lumberjacks.
DeLaSalle’s defense held Cloquet to just 77 yards of offense in the first half; Nathan Weets scored the Lumberjacks first touchdown of the game on a 55 yard touchdown run which cut the lead to 48-7. Kyle Klatt added a 3 yard touchdown run with 4:06 remaining in the third to cut the lead to 48-13. Klatt would lead all rushers Friday with 114 yards on the ground, and he also caught three passes for an additional 32 yards.
Cloquet added a fourth quarter touchdown when Zach Gerlach scored on a 6 yard touchdown run and Weets hit Mason Brenner in the end zone for the two-point conversion to cap off the scoring Friday night.
The Lumberjacks who saw their season end with the loss had another amazing season finishing 10-1 overall and made it back to back state football appearances for the Lumberjacks. Northland Sports Online would like to congratulate Coach Tom Lenarz and his staff and players on a wonderful season.
