Due to school consolidation in Duluth the Central and Denfeld hockey programs are playing as one team this year. While the team is known as Duluth Central that will all change next year when they move into their newly renovated home at Denfeld. The combined program had all it could handle on Thursday night when the barely slipped by Proctor 2-1 in overtime at the Proctor Arena.

Central held a 10-6 shot edge in the first period, but the game was still scoreless. In fact, it wasn’t until Tyler Kaspari finally broke through with just 10 seconds remaining in the second period before the Trojans were able to take a lead.

Jesse Scanlon tied the issue at 13:54 of the final period with an assist by Griffin Swanson and Proctor had sent the game to overtime. The Rails outshot the Trojans 9-2 in the third period.

Proctor continued their momentum into overtime by outshooting the Trojans 3-1, but the one shot for Central proved to be the game-winner. Brendan Johnson, who had also assisted on the Trojans first goal, launched a shot past Rail goalie Brody Morin just 2:16 into overtime to end the game.

The Rails outshot the Trojans 23-19 for the game including a 17-9 edge over the final two periods and overtime.

Up next for the Rails is a road trip to Ashland where they will take on the Oredockers on Saturday evening.
