NSO – NEWS RELEASE

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) announced its weekly awards today and named Yellowjacket senior forward Tanner Dion (Hardisty, Alberta/Central Sedgewick) as its men’s hockey Athlete of the Week.

Dion, a senior from Hardisty, Alberta, opened the 2014-15 season with a huge weekend offensively, figuring in a third of the team’s scoring as the Yellowjackets swept Aurora University out of Illinois.

Friday night Dion set the tone for the Yellowjackets, scoring twice in the first period to help lead the Yellowjackets to a 6-2 victory. Saturday night, Dion set up a goal and scored a goal just 29 seconds apart as the Yellowjackets completed the sweep with a 6-3 win.

“I’ve always been a coach that leans heavily on his seniors and this year will be no different. I expect a lot out of those players and this weekend, Tanner delivered. He really showed up and set a great example for our young team,” Yellowjacket Head Coach Dan Stauber said. “He doesn’t say much. He’s a quiet leader. He is the kind of player that wants his play to talk for him and that is exactly what happened for us this weekend.”

Dion entered the season with six goals and 23 points in 75 career games. Last season he scored just once and had five points in 25 games.

“I hope this is a sign of good things to come for Tanner. He works extremely hard. He does all the right things off the ice, in the weight room, what have you, and he deserves the rewards that come with that hard work,” Stauber added.
