Kelly Carlson pumped in two goals and the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey team picked up an impressive win on the road by a 4-2 score over a very good Eveleth-Gilbert team on Tuesday night.

E-G took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Mari Benda at 5:18 of the first period with an assist to Emma Kishel. That score was the only goal of the period as the Golden Bears headed to the first intermission clinging to a one-goal lead.

Emily Gustafson got the Jacks offense going with a goal at 3:23 of the second period after taking a feed from Carley Esse. Carlson picked up the first of her two goals at 11:50 of the second with Jade Alvillar getting the assist and CEC led the game 2-1 after two periods of play.

Just 1:33 into the final period it was Carlson notching her second goal with Kalie Shevich getting the assist as CEC went up 3-1. The Jacks went ahead 4-1 on a tally by Kara Cresap at 13:13 with senior defender Jessie Ryan marking the assist. The Golden Bears tried to fight back, and they managed to cut into the CEC lead, with a goal with just 30 seconds remaining, but it would be far too late for any type of comeback against the Jacks.

Alyssa Acheson had a solid game in nets for the Jacks by making a total of 28 saves on 30 shots, while Golden Bear goalie Cora Bonicatto finished with 30 saves on 34 shots by CEC.
