Rebels Finish Strong In Crosby Holiday Tournament

The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels were looking for some redemption on Thursday afternoon when they faced the tournament host Crosby-Ironton Rangers in the Crosby Holiday Tournament. The Rebels, who lost the first game of the tournament to Cass Lake-Bena after having a big first half lead wanted to finish strong and that is what they did as the defeated the Rangers 58-45.


The big win over perennial power Crosby-Ironton gives the Rebels a huge emotional boost as they head into the New Year. On Wednesday the Rebels bounced back after the heartbreaking loss to Cass Lake-Bena to defeat the Warriors 66-55. Caleb Koecher and Trevor Nummela paced the way in the win over Warroad as they scored 17 and12 points respectively.


The thirteen point win over the Rangers saw a huge game from Taylor Mattison as he grabbed game high 14 rebounds in the win. Nick Tokar had a great game for the Rebels as well as he stepped in for Trevor Nummela who was ill and could not play against Crosby-Ironton.


Caleb Koecher and Taylor Mattison were named to the all-tournament team for the Crosby Holiday Tournament. Cass Lake-Bena went undefeated in the tournament and took top honors. The Rebels placed second going 2-1 overall followed by Crosby-Ironton and Warroad.


The Rebels improve to 7-2 on the season and they will be in action again on Tuesday when they travel to Grand Marais to face the Cook County Vikings as part of a boys and girls double header.
