Jacks Perfect 8-0

The Cloquet Lumberjacks closed out an undefeated regular season with an 8-0 record on Wednesday night with a 41-6 drubbing of the Pine City Dragons at Rol Bromberg Field.

After stopping the Dragons on their opening drive of the game the Jacks used scored early and scored often in the first half. On their first play of their first possession the Jacks threw incomplete, but on second down Kyle Klatt raced 63-yards to the Dragons five-yard line. The very next play Klatt scampered into the end zone and then Nate Weets threw a two point conversion pass to Joe Gotchnik making the score 8-0 with 6:43 remaining in the opening stanza.

Before the end of the quarter the Jacks had two more scores as Jeb Leone caught a 63 yard touchdown pass from Weets and Niemi a 13 yard catch from Weets as Cloquet went up 22-0.

In the second quarter it was Weets scoring on a four-yard touchdown run which had been set up by an interception by Bucky Defoe and a big 16-yard run on fourth down by Klatt. At halftime the Jacks were up 28-0.

Cloquet added two more scores in the third quarter when Weets scored on a fourth and goal from the 15 and Zach Gerlach caught a Weets pass and raced 64-yards for a score.

The Dragons added a late touchdown after the Jacks had pulled most of their starters in the contest.

The win gives the Jacks the #1 seed in the Section 7AAAA playoffs. Cloquet will not play till Saturday, October 25th at 2pm at Public Schools Stadium in Duluth. The Jacks will be the home team, but have elected to play their home game in Duluth due to bad field conditions in Cloquet.
