Panthers improve to 19-1

CULVER, Minn.— The South Ridge Panthers improved their record to 19-1 tonight with a win over the Cardinals from Cromwell. The team wore pink tonight for the South Ridge School’s annual Pink Night in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.

The Panthers won the first two games 25-16 and 25-16, but the Cards made a strong comeback and played an aggressive third game and took the win 25-19.  South Ridge fought back, beating Cromwell 25-23 in the last game of the night.

The Panthers were led by Senior Justice Janke with 19 kills, 11 digs, and 2 blocks. Junior Lindsey Janke added 17 kills and 12 digs, followed by Junior Mallory Thibault with 8 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Marriah Janke ended with 5 set assists and 3 ace serves, eighth grader Celia Olesiak added 5 digs, and Sophomore RyAnna anvid ended the night with 4 kills.  Senior Setter Mikayla Olesiak had 38 set assists.

Cromwell played very well defensively all night, fighting for every point. They were led by Senior Rachel Hutar with 17 digs and 100% serving.

South Ridge will play again in the Esko Tournament on Saturday. Their first game will be against Hermantown at 9:00 a.m.

Cromwell will be in action again on Tuesday, October 14th at home against the Cook County Vikings. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
