Morris Sweeps Saints

MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica volleyball lost to the University of Minnesota Morris 3-0 (27-25, 27-25, 25-16) Friday night at the P.E Center.

The Saints have now lost two straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference games after winning their first three bringing the team’s overall record to 8-8 and 3-2 in the UMAC.

Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)), who had 11 kills and 11 digs in the game, led St. Scholastica. Christaia Houser (Esko, Minn./Homeschool) added eight kills for CSS. Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and Kirsten Eaton (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) led the Saints in assists with 18 and 11 each.

Abby Tietz led the Cougars in kills with 12 with Emily Auch, Marissa Ekness, and Cori Becker each contributing eight kills. Ekness also added 18 digs. Kayley Siekmann provided game high 22 assists.

Auch leads the UMAC in kills and Kills per set for the Cougars with the Saints Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) is second in both categories. Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) leads the UMAC in service aces per set and Gloria Ohaju (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) leads the UMAC in blocks per set..

Minnesota Morris extended its win streak to five games bringing the teams overall record to 13-5 and 5-1 in the UMAC.

The Saints go on the road to take on Crown College Saturday at 11 a.m.
