The amazing early season run of the Wrenshall football team is now turning into a trend.  On Friday night the Wrens squashed Isle 47-14 in Wrenshall and in doing so they improved to 5-0 on the season.
Freshman Tyler Kelly ignited the hometown crowd with an electrifying 90-yard kick off return to start the game for the Wrens and Justin O’Connor booted home the extra point and just like that Wrenshall went up 7-0.
Isle responded on their first drive with a Trevor Oswald to Korey Shimer touchdown pass that covered 37 yards, but they failed on their two-point conversion run and the Wrens still led it 7-6.  That is when the Wrens domination began.  First it was a Luke Vine to Hunter Pauly 36-yard touchdown pass and catch, then it was a Vine 1 yard run, then it was Vine to Chase Morneau on a 68 yard td pass and then Caleb O’Connor scored back-to-back touchdowns on a one yard run and a 42 yard pass from Vine!  In all the Wrens had put up 41 points before halftime and led it 41-14 because Isle was able to score a late first half touchdown of their own.
The second half was much quieter as the Wrens got yet another touchdown in the fourth quarter from Kelly on a 24 yard touchdown dash.
Justin O’Connor also booted five of six extra points for the Wrens in the win.
Vine threw for 219 yards and the freshman Kelly ran for 125 yards on the ground.
Wrenshall is 5-0 overall and in the Great Northern Conference, while Isle falls to 3-2 overall and in the conference.
