Balanced scoring is something every coach talks about but something that very few teams achieve. Tuesday night the Hermantown Hawks used that very concept to propel themselves to a 60-28 win over the Proctor Rails.

The Hawks saw four different players hit double figures in the win. Cory Anderson and Spencer Johnson led the way with 13 points each. They were joined by Kevin Folman and Cory Kucza with 12 and 10 points respectively. It was the third straight game where the Hawks used a multi player attack on offense. Five players have scored eight or more points in all of the Hawks past three games.

While points are required to win games, Hermantown Head Coach Mike Pothast was pleased with the all around play of the Hawks, commenting to NSO, We had balanced scoring again, with 4 guys in double figures. As importantly though, we put together a great team effort on the defensive end.” Adding, “We also controlled the boards.”

Others scoring for the Hawks were Jake Lesar with 9 points; Brandon Shimmin added 2, while Steven Borndal rounded out the scoring with 1 point.

Jake White led Proctor with 10 points.

Hermantown will face a substantial test on Thursday when they host Moose Lake-Willow River. The Rebels are off to a great start also with a 3-0 record on the young season, while the Hawks record sets at 3-1, losing only to a very good Esko team.
