ST. PAUL, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men’s soccer team won its third game in a row Saturday as it downed the University of Northwestern Eagles by a final score of 6-3.

The first half saw a back and forth effort on both sides and very minimal scoring.  The only goal to come out of the half was scored when Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) put the ball home 36:51 into the half putting the Saints up 1-0. The goal for Folkes came just four minutes after he hit the post on a different shot just narrowly missing a goal.

The Saints outshot Northwestern in the first half 9-3 with Eagles goalie Shane Coleman saving four of them with four not counting as shots on goal.

The second half saw an onslaught of goals as both teams made adjustments out of the locker room. CSS got the goal scoring started just 1:10 into the half as Farrar scored off of a pass from Jenkins making the score 2-0 in favor of the Saints.

The Saints would score twice more in the next five minutes of play. First with Jenkins scoring an unassisted goal; his first of two goals on the day to make the score 3-0, then Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) buried his seventh goal of the year to make it 4-0 Saints with 39 minutes left to play.

Northwestern would respond with two quick goals of their own first on a header goal by Eric Fast at the 56:29 point in the game. Then shortly after David Mooers added a goal of his own with just under 30 minutes left to play making the score 4-2 in favor of the Saints.

CSS would add two more goals in the game first at the 64:56 mark Jenkins put home his second goal of the day on an assist by Folkes, then about 10 minutes later Trevor Clark (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) would get on the scoreboard scoring the sixth and final goal of the game on an assist by Logan Tamke (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS).

Northwestern added a goal of their own in the 80th minute to cut the deficit down to three goals, but it proved to be too little too late as the final whistle blew on a final score of 6-3 in favor of the Saints.

Saints goaltender Jacob Ballheimer (Gerrards Cross, England/Chalfonts Community College) saved four shots on the day while his counterpart Shane Coleman saved five for Northwestern.

The Saints (6-2, 3-0 UMAC) will next be in action Friday as they play their first home game of the season vs. Bethany Lutheran with that game set to kick off at 4:15 p.m. Come watch at Saints Field or catch the action live at Saints Sports Net.
