The University of Minnesota Duluth passed its first road test of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season as the Bulldogs took down Minnesota State University-Moorhead by a 4-0 final on Saturday afternoon in Moorhead, Minnesota.

UMD (2-3-0, 2-0-0 NSIC) dominated the Dragons (1-3-0, 0-2-0 NSIC) despite dealing with a down-pouring of rain throughout much of the afternoon.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Senior forward Maureen Stormont had a goal and two assists, giving her 10 points on the season and tying her with Nicole Fietz (x’03) for third-most points in a UMD career. Stormon now sits two points behind Beth Byers for second-place in that category, and has claimed second place outright in career goals at 43, just nine behind Jen Warrick Reierson (’01) for the most in program history.
• Three Bulldogs netted their first goals of the season as senior defender Megan Helberg, sophomore defender Marissa Ganske, and junior forward Sheridan Reiners each cashed in a score for UMD.
• Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Melby notched her first collegiate victory and shutout, needing just one save in the match.

UMD got the scoring started early as Helberg headed in a Keil free kick just before the two-minute mark of the opening frame. Stormont would get on the board in the 17th minute, cashing in a long pass from senior defender Ana Zdechlik for her fourth of the season. The Bulldog offense kept the pressure on throughout the first half with 18 shots, successfully stifling the Dragons’ offense as MSU-Moorhead amounted just four shots, and none on goal, in the opening frame.

Ganske and Reiners each netted their first of the season early in the second frame as UMD continued to pour it on. With a healthy lead, the Bulldogs’ primary reserves saw significant action in the final 30 minutes of the match. MSU-Moorhead ‘keeper Ashley Leintz took the loss after allowing four goals, giving way to freshman back-up Reagan VonBerge in the 68th minute. The two combined for 10 saves. Reiners, Ganske, and senior midfielder Jennifer Smith led the UMD offense, each collected five shots on the afternoon.
