A late second period fireworks explosion helped to lead the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys hockey team to a 5-1 victory on the road in Proctor on Tuesday night.

After taking a 1-0 first period lead on a goal by Nolan Meyer at the 1:35 mark of the first period, the Jacks were held scoreless until late in the second period. Meyer’s goal was assisted by Chaise Jokinen and Jack McFarlane.

Four goals, three by CEC and one by Proctor, were scored in a span of three minutes and 18 seconds late in the second period as both teams opened things up at a frenetic pace with both goalies putting on quite a clinic. Beau Michaud picked up a shorthanded goal at the 13:17 mark and then Ben Michaud followed with a marker at 14:28 for a 3-1 Jacks lead. The Rails closed to within 3-2 on a goal just seven seconds after Ben Michaud’s goal to make it interesting. However, the Jacks scored at 16:35 when McFarlane pumped in an unassisted goal and CEC led it 4-1 entering the final period.

The lone third period goal was by CEC’s Tanner Robideaux on the power play at 11:27 with Karson Kuhlman notching the assist.

For the game the Jacks put 42 shots on Rails goalie Brody Morin, while John Scheuer made 29 saves on 30 shots for CEC.
