River Falls tops Scholastica

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women’s soccer team fell to visiting University of Wisconsin-River Falls by a score of 2-1 at Saints Field on Saturday.

The Saints led the Falcons after the first half by a score of 1-0. Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) had the lone goal of the first half. She was assisted by Jalyn Britton (Eagan, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS). Throughout the match, the Saints shot 11 times with three shots on goal. Kehtel had a total of two shots on goal while taking four shots in the match. Her teammate Casey Mitchell (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) tried her hand, or foot, at the goal twice with one of those shots on goal. Morgan Osborne (Saint Peter, Minn./Saint Peter HS), Britton, Kirsten Olsen (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS ), Leah Hamm (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS), and Taylor Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS ) each chipped in one shot in the Saints’ loss. Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) made six saves, while allowing two goals. The Saints committed seven fouls throughout the match.

The Falcons came out soaring in the second half. Missy Barnett scored the first of the team’s two goals very quickly at a time of 50:21. She was assisted by teammate Kenzie Weisman. That goal was Barnett’s first of the season. The Falcons’ second goal came at 81:45 when Megan Haninger assisted Kayla Windingstad to the net. Goalie Erica Cimochowski made two saves, while allowing one goal in Saturday’s match-up.

Saturday’s 2-1 loss to the Falcons put the Saints at a 0-5 season record.

St. Scholastica looks to wake up against Northland in Ashland, Wisconsin on September 16 when it opens conference play. The match will be held at 2:30pm on the Northland College Field.
