Area – Duluth Teams Split In All-Star Soccer

DULUTH – The 12th annual Kernz & Co. all star soccer game were held on Monday night. The Boys area team beat the Duluth All-Stars by a score of 1-0, while the Duluth girls topped the Area girls team by a margin of 3-0.

With an assist from Trevor Rodd, Proctor’s Chris Carlson scored with seven minutes left in the game to break a 0-0 tie, giving the Area Boys All-Star team the 1-0 win over the Duluth Area All-Stars. Rodd was also named the game’s MVP.

On the girls side the Area All-Stars were able to keep things close in a scoreless first half but the firepower of the Duluth All-Stars prevailed in the end. The Duluth All-Stars erupted for three goals in the second half to pick up the 3-0 shutout win.

Marshall’s Dominique Caya along with Duluth East’s Tessa Purdy and Allie Bauers from Denfeld/Central all scored for the Duluth team. Purdy also picked up game MVP honors for her efforts.
