DULUTH – Josh Wentz and Matt Morsette each tallied a goal and two assists and captain Tom Paine assisted twice in a 5-3 win over visiting Sioux Lookout (ON) Sunday night at the Heritage Center before a Halloween night crowd of 114. With the win Duluth (5-7-1) breaks a tie for fifth and pushes the Flyers (4-11-1) to last place in the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

Dwight Lee put the puck past Duluth tender Cody Stocker 9:41 into the first to give the Flyers the first lead of the game, but Duluth redoubled their efforts and ended up tying it 1-1 on the Wentz goal with 23 seconds to go before the intermission.

The Clydesdales came out flying in the second, controlling the period with goals by Mark Williams (5:34), Luke Burgstahler (12:31), and Morsette (18:57).

The Flyers struck back in the third, climbing within a goal on scores by Nelson Rosiak (5:40) and Galen Matyjanka (8:23). Casey Eckman would make an impressive individual effort to push the Clydesdale lead back to two, firing the puck past Flyer netminder Peter Emery with 8:37 remaining.

Stocker saved 28 of 31 for Duluth and Emery stopped 23 of 28 for Sioux Lookout as the Clydesdales pushed their home record to 3-2-1. Duluth now heads on the road for a pair of games; they’re in Spooner Wednesday against the Wisconsin Wilderness and Fort Frances Friday for a matchup with the Lakers. They return home to the Heritage Center Sunday the 7th to host the league leading Thunder Bay North Stars.
