AlBrook Sees Successful Season Come to an End

On Friday night the AlBrook Falcons were looking to continue their magical run and advance to the Section 7A Volleyball Final Four for only the second time in school history. After half a set it looked like they were on their way, however the Vikings of Cook County rallied and took control quickly and completed a sweep of AlBrook in three straight sets 25-21, 25-14, and 25-14.

The Falcons came out a blazing as they quickly jumped to a 21-11 1st set lead as Junior Kourtney Karppinen seemed to be all over the court contributing with her game total of 10 kills, 9 digs and 6 blocks. The Vikings roared back with 14 straight points to win the first set.

In the second set, the senior dominated and experienced Vikings showed why they had the Sections number one seed. Pounding out one power spike after another at the Falcons and kept hitting the right openings as they extended to a 17-8 lead and never looked back.

The Falcons did not roll over in the third match and give up as Junior Maija Fremling’s four straight points gave AlBrook an early 5-1 lead, but that would be their last lead of the evening as Cook County was just too much and costly mistakes by the Falcons would end their season at 16-6.

Cook County advances to a Section Semi-final on Wednesday against Chisholm to be held in Virginia.

The communities of Alborn, Brookston and Saginaw area are proud of the Lady Falcons accomplishments this year in having one of the best seasons in the schools 50 year history. The Falcons have the core of their team back next year and will combine with Cotton for athletics, so who knows how far these two programs combined can go next year.
