Rachel Sanda Earns Libero of the Week Honors

CLOQUET – Rachel Sanda, freshman libero for the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder Volleyball team, was named Libero of the Week in the Northern Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference for games played October 11-16.


Sanda recorded 20 digs (6.7 per game average) during a hard-fought road loss to Mesabi Range Technical and Community College on October 12. She finished the regular season ranked second in digs per game average (4.24) among all players in the Northern Division of the conference.


Sanda is the second Thunder volleyball player to earn Northern Division Player of the Week honors during the 2010 season. Sanda is a graduate of Cloquet Senior High School and resides in Cloquet.


With last week’s loss at Mesabi Range Technical and Community College, the Thunder Volleyball team concluded the 2010 season. Despite numerous spirited matches and some tightly-contested games, the Thunder trailed the standings in the Northern Division of the MCAC with a 0-14 conference record, and a 0-15 overall record.


Two Thunder volleyball players finished among the statistical leaders in the conference:- Rachel Sanda (Cloquet) was second in Digs per game average (4.24) and ninth in Serving Aces per game average (0.38).- Holly Nelson (Carlton) was second in Blocks per game average (1.04).


The Minnesota College Athletic Conference is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association. The volleyball conference includes 15 teams which are divided geographically into Northern and Southern Divisions.
