Soccer is more than just a game for the Proctor Rails Boys Soccer team this year. They started the season strong, and have kept it going from there. A new season required everyone to step up to achieve the team goal: going all the way.

The team is currently ranked 9th in state, which is an incredible feat for the team and first year head coach Jesse Smith.

At the beginning of the season Coach Smith said, “We knew we were good, but we wanted to be great.”

This year the team has thirteen seniors who all share the responsibility of leading the team. Smith said this year has been an easy year for his first year as head coach.

The boys all push each other in practices and games, they all know what to do, and they all want the same thing. Junior Ian Ecklund said, “It’s nice having so many seniors because they are all good leaders, and they encourage the younger players to work their hardest to get better.”

Senior captain Donovan DeBartolo said, “We play as a family,” and senior captain Nathan Wells agreed by saying, “We have really good chemistry this year.”

The team has been playing together for a long time, and they all know each other as people and as players. According to Wells, the Rails have a good chance of going undefeated and possibly going to state.

Smith is pleased with the way the season is going, but confided that he gets nervous every game because he doesn’t want to lose. The Proctor Rails boys’ soccer team has had an outstanding season so far.
