Cloquet Alum To Represent St. Olaf in National Golf Tourney

AJ Rodd, a 2007 Cloquet High School graduate, will represent St. Olaf College in the 2010 National Collegiate Golf Championship on Sunday, November 14th in Las Vegas, Nevada. The tournament is sanctioned by the NIRSA (National Independent Recreation Sports Association) and will include over 40 colleges and universities from across the country.

According to the NCGC website the NCGC program is an officially endorsed NIRSA program and has benefited the NIRSA Foundation with over $28,000 over the past 7 years. The NCGC Program is also part of the PGA PGAU program.


A 2-person scramble event for recreational golfers, the NCGC will allow golfers to compete for their university to see who will be the 2010 champion. Winning teams from Local Qualifiers advance to the 9th Annual National Collegiate Golf Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada November 11-14, 2010. The Championship has three divisions: Student, Faculty/Staff and Alumni/Community.

In order to qualify for the event Rodd and his golfing partner, Spencer Mack, had to win a qualifier at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota on September 26th. Following their win at St. Olaf, Rodd and Mack, moved on to regional qualifying play at the University of Minnesota where they won their division allowing them to represent the state of Minnesota at the national championship in Las Vegas.

The event will be held at the Paiute Golf Club Wolf Course and is focused on university recreational golfers consisted of 50-80 local qualifying tournaments held across the country. The event is promoted to over 750 colleges and universities across the country making it the premier recreational golf event held in the United States.
