The Esko boys and girls cross country teams captured the Polar League championships last week in Grand Marais. Both teams would have a close battle with Cook County but in the end it was the Eskomos taking both titles.

In the singles competition for the boys it was last year’s second place finisher Keiran Scannell of Cook County who bested everyone and took home first place. Scannell defeated last year’s polar league champion Jackson Lindquist of Esko. Scannell’s time was over a minute faster than Lindquist, as Scannell finished in a time of 16:59 compared to Lindquist’s 18:08.

Esko had six runners finish in the top ten, including Adam Eskuri who finished 3rd, Joey Johnson was 4th, Matt Rengo was 7th, Ben Hanson 9th, and Mac Ryks rounded out the top ten for the boys competition.

The girl’s race again saw the Eskomos dominate the top ten, as Kailee Kiminski was the top finisher with a time of 15:25, her teammate Marissa Shady was second with a time of 15:36. Ailee Larson of Cook County was third. Other top ten finishers included Esko’s Erika Shady in 4th, Kallyn Knutson 5th, Rachel Mills was 8th and Molly Meysembourg finished in 9th place. Moose Lake-Willow River/Barnum’s Kathryn Moonen was seventh.

Most Polar League school will participate in the Cross country meet at Proctor Golf Course Tuesday, and the next meet will be the Section 7 meet on Thursday October 28th at the Cloquet Country Club. Both the boys and girls meets will be held on that date.
