Sixty-nine cross country teams representing 92 schools and 2120 runners all competing in the 60th annual Swain cross country meet Saturday at Enger Park Golf Course in Duluth saw the Esko girls and boys cross country teams shine on this huge cross country stage. The Esko girl’s team finished second, while the boy’s team placed fifth.


The Esko girls finished in second place 59 points behind Blake School out of the twin cities. Sophomore Melissa Shady was Esko’s top finisher as she placed third overall in the class A girl’s race, Kailee Kiminski finished in 5th place overall, while Erika Shady placed tenth. Kate Shelerud, Rachel Mills, Molly Meysembourg, and Megan Ryks were all part of the Varsity winning team.


Finishers in the girls class A meet locally were, Lindsey Dahl-Holm from Carlton, who placed 16th, Kathryn Moonen 82nd from Moose Lake-Willow River, Emma Bloom from AlBrook, Stacie Dumas from Proctor, Courtney Bauer from Carlton, Alaina Levings of Proctor, Olivia Warpula from Cromwell-Floodwood, Sierra Moen from Proctor, Emily Warpala, Cromwell-Floodwood, Rianannon Klein of AlBrook, and Savanna Wyman from Wrenshall.


The Esko boys finished fifth overall behind Plainview-Elgin who was first in the Boys Class A, Minnehaha Academy was second, followed by Glencoe, and Northwestern of Maple Wisconsin. Esko’s Jackson Lindquist was second overall in the boy’s race, Adam Eskuri was 17th, and Joey Johnson was 30th for the Eskomos. The rest of Esko’s 5th place team was Matt Rengo, Ben Hanson, Mac Ryks, and Ben Bissell.


Class A finishers from the local areas were Tommy Rossiter from Proctor, Zach Bourgeault of AlBrook, Zach Richards from AlBrook, Kodie Peterson of Carlton, Cameron Weisert from Moose Lake-Willow River, Jonathan Chambers of Cromwell-Floodwood, Duncan Fox from Carlton, Jacob Nikko of Moose Lake-Willow River and Spencer Walton from Carlton.


In the Class AA tournament, the Hermantown girl’s finished 13th overall, the Cloquet boy’s and girl’s teams did not have enough members to qualify for a team score. The Hermantown boy’s team as well didn’t have enough members to qualify. Nikki Roach finished in 15th place overall for Hermantown, while Cloquet’s top finisher was Halee Peterson who finished in 31st place.


Dalyce Gustafson and Kayla Masessa were other top finishers for Cloquet, Kelsey Lagergren and Jess Harper were top finishers for Hermantown.


In the Boy’s meet in Class AA, top finishers were Taylor Lafontaine, Nate Struckman, and Devin Smith of Hermantown. Cloquet’s top finishers were Jared Anderson, Cody Myllymaa, and Jarrett McVey.
