Esko-Carlton and Hermantown have both advanced to the Section 7A semifinals in girls soccer and will square off against each other on Tuesday afternoon in Esko. The Eskomos defeated Hibbing 4-0 on Saturday, while the Hawks bounced Proctor from the tournament with a 2-0 win.

Caitlin Lilly made sure the Eskomos advanced by delivering three goals in E-C’s win over Hibbing. Lilly scored the first goal of the game in just the second minute when Sammy Toivonen delivered a through pass that Lilly beat the last defender on and then rammed it home for a 1-0 lead. In the 43rd minute the Eskomos went up 2-0 when Kelsey Mudek found Lilly for a goal and then it became 3-0 in the 46th minute when Lilly scored her third goal courtesy of a Hillary Anderson pass that Lilly one-touched into the back of the net. Anderson’s pass came on a corner kick. The final goal of the game was scored by Savannah Schramm in the 66th minute on penalty kick.

E-C goalie Rachel Ofstie made six saves on six shots, while Hibbing goalie Becca Marturano made 13 saves on 17 shots.

In Hermantown’s 2-0 win over Proctor on Saturday the Hawks delivered a knockout punch in the second half of a scoreless game when Rachel Hoium and Melissa Madison scored back-to-back goals for the win.

E-C will host Hermantown on Tuesday in the Section 7A Semifinals.
