ML-WR Topples Braham 54-14

The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels remained perfect on the season Thursday night as the Rebels pounded the Bombers of Braham by a score of 54-14. Braham, who entered the game with only one loss on the season, found themselves behind 28-0 in the first half and could never mount a serious challenge to the Rebels.


Chris Gassert paced the Rebels, rushing for three touchdowns on the night including runs of 10, 41, and 7 yards. Holden Olson added two rushing touchdowns, and Jake Disterhaupt, Adam Johnsen, and Michael Gassert had touchdown runs as well as the Rebels picked up the section win on the road.


The Rebels used nine running backs to carry the ball Thursday night as they rushed for a team total 357 yards. Chris Gassert was the only back with more than 100 yards rushing on the night. The Rebels also added 56 yards passing from Nick Tokar and Caleb Koecher. Johnsen pulled in 2 receptions for 27 yards in the victory.


The Rebel defense stood out again, forcing one turnover as Michael Pender recovered a fumble for the Rebels. Austin Lanoue had two sacks on the evening and teammate Nate Vargas added one. Peder Xiong led the Rebels with 6 tackles on the night, while Lanoue added 5. Abe Young and Nathan VanZee each finished with 4 tackles in the Rebels win.


Moose Lake-Willow River improves to 7-0 on the season and the will round out the regular season Wednesday night at home as the Rebels will host the Esko Eskomos. Braham falls to 5-2 on the season. The Bombers close out their regular season on the road at Rush City on Wednesday.
