The Ely Timberwolves and South Ridge Panthers are set to square off on June 5th for the Section 7A championship in Hibbing at 5 PM. The Timberwolves topped Littlefork, 13-2, to secure their spot in the finals, while South Ridge beat Cook County 10-4 and Littlefork 13-0 to get their spot.

The first game of the day was the Panthers and Cook County Vikings. Out of the Panthers 10 runs, only 2 runs were earned as the Vikings committed mass amounts of errors throughout the game. The Vikings also outhit the Panthers 13 to 5 in the game.

Vinny Wood recorded the win for the Panthers by going 4 innings, allowing 10 hits and 2 runs. Dominic Lisic went 2-3 with 3 RBI’s in the game and Matt Wood drove in 2 of his own.

In the second game of the day, Ely’s Louie Gerzin got the win by throwing 3 hitless innings while recording 5 K’s. Pat Huisman went 3-3 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI’s. Littlefork committed 6 errors in this game.

To close out the night, the Panthers met up with the Littlefork Vikings in a game that wouldn’t be much of a matchup as the Panthers toppled the Vikings 13-0, with 10 of those runs coming in the 1st inning. Spencer Otis got the victory, pitching 4 innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 6. Drew Janke went 2-3 with 4 RBI’s and Reid Clark went 3-3 with 2 RBIs.

The Timberwolves are now 20-2 on the year and the Panthers improve to 11-8. For the Panthers to win the Section 7A title, they will have to beat the Timberwolves twice on Thursday night, whereas the Timberwolves only have to win one game to claim the title.
