Esko Invite Won By The Hosts, Eskomos Now 22-1 On The Season

ESKO- Saturday was just another routine weekend for the Esko Eskomos as they captured
the championship of their own Esko Invitational Tournament. The Eskomos, who went undefeated in pool play, met the Cloquet Lumberjacks in the championship game and it was a 2-0 win for the Eskomos at home. The eight team tournament featured two other local schools including Hermantown, and Moose Lake Willow River.


The Eskomos opened up pool play with a 25-9, and 25-18 win over Duluth Marshall, the second match was another 2-0 win over International Falls. The scores of the second win were 25-16 and 25-21. The last matchup in pool play was Esko knocking off Greenway 25-14 and 25-18 to advance to the championship match.


The Lumberjacks of Cloquet went 3-0 on pool play also; the Jacks defeated Hermantown in three sets 22-25, 26-24, and 15-4. Cloquet then faced the Rebels and won in two straight games, 25-21 and 25-16. In another tight matchup in pool play the Deer River Warriors took Cloquet to the end in both games but it was Cloquet winning both in the end by scores of 25-23 and 25-22.


The Esko Eskomos were not going to be denied in their own invitational tournament as the Eskomos knocked off the Lumberjacks 25-17 in the first game, and in the second it was the Eskomos winning 25-18 to capture the Invitational title.


Hermantown played well in the tournament, with their only loss the one to Cloquet, the Hawks record stands at 14-8 on the season and they host Superior on Tuesday. ML-WR falls to 5-19 on the season and will play at Barnum Thursday night.


The Eskomos improve to 22-1 overall. The 22nd win of the season is the state’s most victories in any class. There are three schools state wide still undefeated but have not played as many matches. Esko will play at Silver Bay on Tuesday. The Lumberjacks improve to 14-8 overall and they will play at Carlton on Monday night.
