Joey Singpiel must have looked like he was everywhere to Proctor in Friday night’s 14-0 Cloquet victory in high school football.

The senior running back/defensive back had four interceptions, a touchdown reception, two tackles and was a thorn in the side of the hometown Rails all night long.

With just 12 seconds remaining in the first quarter, and facing a fourth and nine situation, Lumberjack quarterback Kellin Lamirande somehow found Singpiel in the end zone for a touchdown giving Cloquet a 6-0 lead following the conversion kick by Trent Moe.

The Lumberjacks faced an almost identical situation in the second quarter when they were stuck in fourth and goal from the 16-yard line. Lamirande worked his magic again by delivering a touchdown pass to Zach Peterson with 9:32 left in the first half for a 14-0 lead after the Moe kick.

After the second touchdown the game often resembled a back yard touch football game as both teams struggled to hang on to the ball or keep the ball out of the other teams grasp by throwing interceptions. To drive home that point one only has to look at the stat sheet that showed Cloquet fumbled the ball three times, while the Rails struggled even worse with no fumbles, but five interceptions. In all there were 8 turnovers in the game, of which four of those interceptions by Cloquet came from the sure-handed Singpiel.

In between the interceptions and fumbles the Jacks got an 89-yard rushing effort from Stefan Pease and a 7-for-14 passing effort from Lamirande that resulted in 96 yards through the air and two scores. Meanwhile, the Rails got 76 yards on the ground from Patrick Everson, but quarterback Alex Oachs went only 3-for-21 with the five interceptions for Proctor.

The win improved the Lumberjack record to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the Sea Range Conference, while the Rails are also 4-2 and 4-1 in conference play.

Next Friday will see Cloquet host Hermantown while Proctor will travel to Coleraine to take on the newly formed Greenway-NK football squad.
