Bulldogs Topple Mercuries In 9

In a key game for both the Carlton Bulldogs and the McGregor Mercuries, it took extra innings to decide a winner. The Bulldogs would win the game 17-7 in 9 innings.

The Bulldogs were trailing 7-3 going into the top of the 7th inning before they had a 2 out rally that got 4 runs across the plate. Nate Nilsen started the rally with a 2 out double that scored 2. Nilsen would then score off a Dominic Bennett double to make the game 7-6. Bennett would score the tying run after Evan Gray had a blooper single to left, making the score 7-7. The game would remain 7-7 until the 9th inning when the Bulldogs burst out for a 10 run inning, making the score 17-7 and securing the victory.

Getting the win in relief was lone senior Brytton George who pitched 2 innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 1. The offense was propelled by Dominic Bennett who went 3-5 with 3 doubles, driving in 2 and scoring 3 times. Also in the win, Marshall Bennett went 3-6 with an RBI, Josh Dallman went 2-7 with 3 runs driven in, Jackson Mickle had 2 hits with an RBI and scored 3 times, and Nate Nilsen had one hit in a key spot that drove in two runs.

Taking the loss for the Mercuries was Chase Hoover who pitched 2 innings, allowing 8 runs on 7 hits and walking 3. Chase Hoover also led the offense, going 3-5 with two doubles and 3 RBI’s. Tom Scollard went 2-4 with an RBI in the loss.

The Bulldogs improve to 2-7 on the season and will play their regular season finale at home against Silver Bay on May 21st. The Mercuries drop to 1-9 on the year and will play on the road against the Floodwood Polar Bears on May 21st and travel to play Crosby-Ironton on May 22nd.
