The Carlton Bulldogs hosted the Cherry Tigers on Wednesday night at home and dropped a close one, losing 5-3 in a game that came down to the final pitches.

The scoring didn’t start until the 4th inning when the Bulldogs got on the board after a bases loaded walk. Cherry responded, however, scoring 2 of their own in the top of the 5th and scoring 3 more in the top of the 6th. The young Bulldogs would continue to battle, scoring 2 in the bottom of the 6th inning to make it a 5-3 game. In the bottom of the 7th, the Bulldogs had the tying run on 1st but Cherry struck out the final batter to end the game.

Taking the loss for the Bulldogs was Josh Dallman in his first varsity start on the mound. Dallman pitched 5 innings, allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, walked 2 and struck out 5. The offense was led by 8th grader Jackson Mickle who went 1-3 and drove in 2 runs. Freshman Evan Gray also had a nice day at the plate, going 2-4 with a stolen base. Freshman Nate Nilsen walked twice, had 1 RBI and scored a run.

The Bulldogs fall to 1-7 on the season and will play next Monday against Duluth Marshall, Tuesday against McGregor, and Wednesday against Silver Bay.
