Nelson Earns Player of The Week Honors

CLOQUET, MN– Holly Nelson, sophomore middle hitter for the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder Volleyball team, was named Hitter of the Week in the Northern Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference for games played September 13-18.


Nelson racked up 30 kills during the week including 12 kills in a tightly contested 3-1 loss to Gogebic Community College when she hit at a .55 pace. Nelson was tough at the net defensively as well with 17 blocks (1.3 per game average). She is currently ranked second in blocks per game among all players in the Northern Division of the conference.


Nelson is the first Thunder volleyball player to earn Northern Division Player of the Week honors during the 2010 season. Nelson is a graduate of Carlton High School and resides in Wrenshall.


The 2010 Thunder Volleyball team is still seeking their first match win of the season. The Thunder trail the standings in the Northern Division of the MCAC with a 0-6 conference record, and a 0-7 overall record.


Several Thunder volleyball players are currently among the statistical leaders in the conference: – LaRena Evazich (Wrenshall) is third in Attack percentage and seventh in Setting Assists per game. – Rachel Sanda (Cloquet) is third in Digs per game average and sixth in Serving Aces per game average. – Amber Gregg (Cloquet) is tenth in Serving Aces per game average.


The Minnesota College Athletic Conference is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association. The volleyball conference is comprised of 15 teams which are divided geographically into Northern and Southern Divisions.
