The Cloquet girls soccer team is entering a rough part of their schedule and on Thursday night the Jacks showed a lot of mental fortitude in coming from behind to beat Two Harbors 4-1.

“This is the start of a busy stretch for us,” said Cloquet coach Dustin Randall. “We play Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and really doesn’t let up or get any easier.”

After falling behind in the 4th minute the Lumberjacks scored three times before halftime to take a 3-1 lead at the break. Emily Rikkola scored on a feed from Carrie Zeadow in the 27th minute, in the 35th minute it was Rikkola assisting on a goal by Emily Wangen and finally in the 39th minute Carley Esse scored on a pretty header with Zeadow assisting.

“It was another great game for Emily Rikkola who had two goals and an assist,” remarked Randall. “That really doesn’t tell the whole story however, because we are getting chances and creating opportunities from many players.”

Cloquet scored the only goal of the second half when Rikkola notched her second tally of the game with an assist to Becca Hammond.

“We are still finding things to work and improve on, but this is another step forward for our team,” commented Randall. “We gave up another early goal and went down early and that is a habit we need to kick.”

Kenzie Rathe made 7 saves on 8 shots for the Lumberjacks in goal.
