Bulldogs Fall In Doublehader

The Carlton Bulldogs traveled up to Nashwauk on Saturday morning to take on the Deer River Warriors and the Nashwauk-Keewatin Spartans. The Bulldogs would fall in their first game, 12-2 in 5 innings too the Warriors. In the second game, the Spartans would take the game, 9-2.

Deer River would take advantage of the youthful Bulldogs miscues in the first game, which allowed them to score 4 unearned runs early in the matchup. The Bulldogs would try to battle back, but wouldn’t be able to accomplish as they would fall in 5 innings.

Brytton George got the loss for the Bulldogs, going 2 innings, allowing 6 hits and 5 earned runs while striking out 3. The offense was led by Evan Gray who went 2-3 and scored a run. Marshall Bennett got the Bulldogs lone RBI driving Gray in during the 4th inning.

In game two, the Bulldogs once again would give the opponent some extra outs, allowing 4 unearned runs in the first 3 innings. The Bulldogs improved their defense as the game went on, only allowing 4 runs throughout the final 4 innings.

Taking the loss for the Bulldogs was 8th grader Jackson Mickle, who surrendered 4 hits, allowing 1 earned run while striking out 4 in 4.1 innings pitched. The offense was led by Gray again, who went 3 for 3 with a double. Dominic Bennett also had a double in the loss.

The Bulldogs fall to 1-4 on the season and look to bounce back against the Barnum Bombers on Monday, May 5th. The game will start at 4:00 PM at Chub Lake.
