The Barnum Bombers took their state ranked football team up the North Shore on Friday and the Bombers would improve to 2-0 on the season with a 14-6 win over Cook County in Grand Marais.

The Bombers, by picking up the huge road wins adds even more confidence to the states number eight ranked team in Class single A. The last time the Bombers were state ranked the made an appearance in the state football tournament in 2006 where they lost the state quarterfinal matchup to Wabasso.

“We didn’t play the best offensively” Head Coach Kevin Haley told Northland Sports Online. “We played pretty solid on defense, but we had too many chances on offense where we didn’t convert.” Haley added “Hogan and Chavez each had a nice night running the ball, but we need to get better and take advantage when we have the opportunities.”

Josh Hogan ran for 144 yards and a touchdown, Hector Chavez added 105 yards rushing, and Wyatt Frinifrock ran for 40 yards and scored the other Bomber touchdown. Barnum ran for over 300 yards Friday night against the Vikings.

Barnum will be in action again next Friday night when the Bombers host the Chisholm Bluestreaks. The Vikings fall to 0-2 on the season and Cook County will be at home next Friday as they host the Giants of Mesabi East.
