Eskomos Bring Home Third Place Hardware

Unseeded Esko used excellent shooting to upset No. 4-seeded Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 53-44 in the Class AA third-place game. The Eskomos shot 45.2 percent (14-31) from the field and 42.9 percent (9-21) from three-point range.

The Lakers of Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted finished shooting 34.9 percent (15-43) from the field.

Bailey Mudek was the high scorer for Esko, finishing with 16 points. Ava Gonsorowski and Kailee Katt each added 11 points for the Eskomos, and Gonsorowski and Judy Wagemaker each grabbed four rebounds.

Abby Miller and Gabby Gruenhagen both scored 17 points for Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted. Gruenhagen also tallied the double-double with a team-high 10 rebounds.

Miller set a new state tournament record with her 16 three-pointers over three games. She hit seven in the quarterfinals against Minnehaha Academy of Minneapolis, six in the semifinals against New Richland-H-E-G, and three against Esko.
